Mr. Garland, who has achieved a peer review rating of "AV" through Martindale-Hubble, has successfully tried approximately one hundred jury trials, including the defense of wrongful death, construction defects, maintenance defects, excessive force, premises liability and significant commercial tort claims in which the Plaintiffs were seeking millions of dollars in damages. He has briefed and argued cases before the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland and has obtained numerous judgments on behalf of his clients prior to trial.
Mr. Garland is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, the District of Columbia Bar, the Anne Arundel County Bar Association and the Defense Research Institute. He serves as a member of the Judicial Selections Committee of the Maryland Sate Bar Association and has served as an instructor of other attorneys with the Maryland Institute for Continuing Education for Lawyers (MICPEL).
Mr. Garland began practicing law in 1989, after serving a one-year Clerkship with the Honorable Raymond G. Thieme of the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County. Mr. Garland's practice is currently concentrated in the areas of insurance defense and coverage and products liability defense. He also has experience in the areas of family law and criminal law.
