The Dexter Company, a mechanical equipment supplier, retained the Firm to defend a competitor’s claim against it for tortious interference with contract and prospective economic advantage. The claim was filed after Dexter Company was awarded the competitive bid contract to supply mechanical equipment to a large hospital construction project in Washington, D.C. Dexter Company successfully moved for Summary Judgment, arguing that there was insufficient evidence of a contract between the competitor and the equipment manufacturer, or that Dexter Company had interfered with the competitor’s prospective business relationship with the manufacturer. This victory exonerated Dexter Company and allowed it to avoid substantial legal fees and expenses involved in preparing for and presenting its defense at trial. The Circuit Court’s decision in favor of our client was affirmed by the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland.
