Ferguson, Schetelich & Ballew is pleased to congratulate Firm Principal Thomas Schetelich for being recognized as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Attorneys based on lifetime legal achievement. The award is based on peer nomination and independent research focusing on professional experience, significant case results, client satisfaction, and public service. Mr. Schetelich was honored for his work in business law and business litigation.

Earlier in the month, Mr. Schetelich, along with Firm Principal Jocelyn Szymanowski, were invited by the Child Evangelism Fellowship to present at their annual training for staff and volunteers. Mr. Schetelich and Ms. Szymanowski discussed the recent cases out of the United State Supreme Court that concern religious liberty, especially as to their impact on public schools. The program was attended by more than 150 faith leaders and lasted for half a day.

This presentation follows an eventful first few weeks of the year for First Amendment law at Ferguson, Schetelich & Ballew that saw a major victory at the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. Read more about that case here.

Ferguson Schetelich & Ballew attorneys were also active in Annapolis in the past month. The Maryland General Assembly began its 2018 session and with taking on important issues. One of the first items on the Legislature’s agenda was an override of a Gubernatorial veto on a paid sick leave law. This action changed existing Maryland law and has employers making sure their policies are up-to-date. Firm Principal Peter Basile and attorney Matthew McDaniel were in also Annapolis this month for the kick-off to the Brewers’ Association of Maryland “FeBREWary” Toast to the Governor. Mr. McDaniel, who has been spearheading Firm business-development efforts, and Mr. Basile enjoyed meeting a whole host of local brewers and allied craftsmen and discussing the legal issues facing the growing industry in Maryland.

Continuing our commitment to representing the needs and interests of numerous local businesses, the Firm is also pleased to announce that it has joined the Downtown Partnership in Baltimore City in addition to becoming an affiliate member of the Maryland Tech Council and the Restaurant Association of Maryland.
